O Le Tu’iē (Tu’iē) was founded at the end of 2022 as a means of encouraging community participation in sports! Our vision was to create a space that allowed for all levels of play; regardless of playing history or skill, there would be a spot for you at Tu’iē.
Our club ended 2022 with approximately 20 players and now boasts a roster of 180 members. We have 6 active teams, their competition ranging from local social draws to the southern league. Beyond competition our club is involved with local school development, has an active social scene, and runs weekly open trainings for the community.
If you are interested or just want to be nosy, come along to one of our weekly Open Gyms sessions at Smithells Gym (690 Cumberland Street), run every Thursday from 7.30 pm.
Alternatively, reach out to us on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/tuievolleyball/) or send us an email (tuievolleyball@gmail.com).
Fa’afetai tele lava, we look forward to meeting you.
Ōtepoti Vikings Volleyball Club was rejuvenated in 2021 after being inactive for several years. The original Vikings Volleyball Club was established in 1981 (largely based on Kings High School Old Boys) and a Women’s team made its first appearance in 1985 (largely based on Bayfield High School).
Many Vikings players and coaches have represented Otago and New Zealand. In 2003 four members of the NZ senior women’s team were Vikings. The club has a proud history – being inclusive, competitive, and social.
Currently, Ōtepoti Vikings have 3 women’s and 4 men’s teams. The teams play in local Volleyball Otago Competitions, the South Island Southern Zone League, and National Club Championships.
