Refereeing and referee development is an extremely important aspect of our sport, Volleyball Otago aim to increase the knowledge, skill, and prevalence of referees within our region’s schools, club’s and community groups, this working towards the overall development of our game! Local Referee Course
Date: Sunday 16th February
Time: 3-5pm
Location: Otago Girls High School Gym
Cost: $5 per person
This course is super useful for all players, coaches, managers, and parents to upskill and refine their referee knowledge. You will get to complete a scoresheet, participate in a practical workshop, and complete the VNZ online test. It is the perfect opportunity to invest in your personal development!
The $5 fee will cover the cost of the VNZ online course which will give you the official VNZ qualification!
Please register prior to the course however if you decide on the day that you want to attend, you can still turn up even if you haven't registered :)
The level 1, local refereeing award is an online workshop. This course is targeted towards individuals beginning their refereeing journey or are seeking official accreditation of their current skills and knowledge. The course provides participants with the knowledge and qualifications to referee local school competitions.

The level 2, regional refereeing award is an award attained via completion of an in-person theory workshop, an online examination, as well as a practical component, including practical assessment. The award is targeted to individuals progressing their level of refereeing, with zone tournaments, national secondary school tournaments, and age group national representative tournaments being appropriate competition levels for this qualification.
The level 3, national refereeing award is attained by individuals who complete online and in-person workshop and exam components, the individual must be endorsed by their regional association and have previously completed and displayed high competency at the regional level. The award allows individuals to referee national senior events, zone events and NVL games/tournaments.
The level 4, federation award is the highest level of referee qualification, the qualification requires completion of previous awards, as well as in-person and online workshop and exam components. The award allows the individual to referee international level games and competitions both in New Zealand and around the globe.
