Coaching and coach development are extremely important aspects of our sport. Volleyball Otago aims to increase the knowledge, skill, and prevalence of coaches within our region’s schools, clubs and community groups, working towards the overall development of our game! The level 1 or engage coaching award is directed towards individuals that are either new to coaching volleyball, or operate within the primary school, and junior high-school areas of our sport. This award provides individuals with key knowledge and skills associated with effective coaching, and is completed online within an hour, providing an officially recognised award from Volleyball New Zealand.

The level 2 or grow coaching award is directed towards individuals wishing to take their next step on the coaching journey, coaching high-school, club social or for student coaches. The award is completed over a day, where a mix of online and in person modules, both theoretical and practical are used. This provides an individual with an officially recognised award from Volleyball New Zealand.

The level 3 or develop coaching award is best directed to individuals coaching competitive high-school, club, or age-group representative volleyball. Attainment of this award requires the candidate to complete online and in-person modules amounting to 10 hours of work, with a 5-hour long reflection learning framework required to show personal development and self-directed learning in the coaching sphere.

The level 4 or excel coaching award is targeted at individuals wishing to make a step into the coaching of high-performance teams, those in the representative, regional, or national levels. The award requires the candidate to compete an array of online and in-person modules, amounting to 20-hours work, with an additional 15-hours of self-directed reflection and learning modules.
